Why “Unfinished Leadership”?

I chose the name Unfinished Leadership because it captures two powerful biblical images that define the journey of every leader: a race still being run and clay still being shaped.

Hebrews 12 reminds us that we are “running the race marked out for us,” and we do so by “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” This race isn’t over—we are still in motion, still becoming, still pressing forward. Leadership is not about having arrived; it’s about staying in the race with perseverance and purpose.

At the same time, Unfinished points to the image in Jeremiah 18, where we are described as clay in the Potter’s hand. God is shaping us, molding us, refining us. Great leaders are not self-made—they are God-shaped. And that process requires humility; the willingness to be formed, re-formed, and refined by the hand of the Potter.

Unfinished Leadership is about embracing that posture. I coach leaders who are willing to admit they’re still becoming, still learning, still dependent on God’s grace. Because the best leaders aren’t the ones who pretend they’ve arrived—but the ones who know they’re being shaped every day by the One who calls them onward.
